Hard Watermelon Hippie Juice

Oh man!  This cocktail is so freeking good.  Both Debbie and I love this one and you will too.  Can’t see how anyone wouldn’t.

Fresh watermelon juice and homemade lemonade sweetened with honey make this cocktail like taking a cool sip of summer.  The orange triple sec and the coconut rum enhance the flavors of the fruit juice and take it over the top.  We were both hooked on this “hippie juice” from the very first taste.  I think my first words were, “Holy Shit!  This is amazing!”   Seriously, you just gotta try one.

Hard Watermelon Hippie Juice

Our friends over at Arctic Chill were so nice and sent us their Arctic Chill Muddler to try out!  We used it to muddle the watermelon flesh to get the juice out and it worked well.  I will admit, at first we figured that a muddler would just be a muddler and would it really be different from any other muddler that we have tried?  Well the answer is yes and no.  Yes it is the same shape as any other muddler, however, its longer and a bit heavier than any muddler either Debbie or I had already.  Its metal instead of cheap plastic and I like how it fits well in my hand, with a nice weight to it.

The biggest difference that the Arctic Chill Muddler has is the size of the bottom part that does all the work.  We measured against our other muddlers and its bigger than all of them which makes a task like getting juice out of  watermelon easier.  We also liked how it didn’t have pointy parts on the bottom like another muddler I have does.  I find that muddlers with pointy parts on the bottom don’t do a great job.

Say all that to say, next time I reach for a muddler, it will be for my Arctic Chill Muddler.  And just so you know, yes they gave us free muddlers, but we weren’t paid to write a good review, we’re just giving an honest opinion.

I think I said “muddler” more times in the last three paragraphs than I have in my whole dang life!  lol.

Hard Watermelon Hippie Juice

We used our own Lemonade recipe for this hippie juice cocktail.  Its so good.  All the lemon flavor with a hint of sweet honey.  Its really easy to make your own and it tastes so much better than concentrate, but if you like, you can use the concentrate and your cocktail will still taste great. 🙂

You can replace the lemonade with concentrate but don’t sub in anything for the watermelon juice, without it, this drink wont be the same at all.

Hard Watermelon Hippie Juice

Ok so why is this called “hippie juice” you ask?  Well I don’t really have a great answer for that lol, but the truth is that Mark, I think, saw a picture of a watermelon cocktail on facebook with the title of “hippie juice” and told us about it.  We loved the idea of a watermelon cocktail and thought that the name “hippie juice” just kinda fit so we called our version hippie juice too.  Unfortunately we couldn’t find the original version on facebook so we couldn’t tell you where Mark originally got the idea.

I have a feeling we are going to be stocking up on watermelon this summer…

    1. Yes! Give it a try. Let us know what you think! We rimmed the glass with strawberry sugar. Its just a rimmer that Debbie bought at the store. We used it mostly because its pretty 😉

  1. So happy to see my random leftover concoction from 2010 is still making the rounds and evolving! Enjoy drinking and sharing! All the best to you <3

    1. Jenny! So you made the original Hippie Juice?! Loved reading your post on it. Our version is a little different, but same kind of idea 🙂

      1. Yes. It was made for an event on the spot with leftovers from a housewarming party. I’ve worked as a juicer/chef the last few years and I love the idea of using fresh juices for this and appreciate the care you are taking in your variation. I actually celebrated the 5th anniversary of hippie juice using what I had in my apartment to honor it which happened to be blending 1/4 watermelon, ice, and Malibu. Simple, but still delicious. Happy Creating & Happy Drinking!
